What is structured data markup (SDM)?

This way the search engine will read it very easily and will be able to categorize it even easier. 

Structured data markup needs two basics: things/substances (which are on the list) and their properties. Recipes are the most common to be marked up, but it can be used for anything relational or similar. This schema format will present your website in two different search results? 

Rich results:  these are the generic results for all sorts of articles enabled to appear in list or as a single element. 

Knowledge graph cards:  This is a lesser known area but if your content is sort of authorized then it can be treated as more of a factual data and can appear in Google’s own knowledge graph site that’s an inside search tool within google knowledge. This is a sort of a Wikipedia within google.

Other structuring tools that can help you include Breadcrumbs and sitelinks search on your own website.
