SEO in China states that Content marketing is important because it enhances your marketing and helps you popularize your brand. But there are points when it also gives you nightmares.

Here are some of the personal horror stories shared by some of the content marketing experts from different companies:

1.Michael Brenner, Head of Strategy (NewsCred):

Michael Brenner shared one of the most horrifying story in which he was about to get fired. He states that there was a member of his team who conducted a research which occupied the competitor’s piece of research in a well-written blog post. The research was actually conducted by an independent firm but it was sponsored by a competitor. It was hosted on the that firm’s landing page but it was promoted by their competitor.

They published the article. That article was performing very well and it was also tweeted by the VP of sales but the VP of marketing  saw that the links were linking to the competitor's site so he asked to fire Michael. But the increasing craze for the blog brought many visitors to their branded content hub and only few landed on the competitor’s page.

Hence this data saved Michael’s job and made people understand the value to help the customers even if it includes your competitor.

2.Carlos Abler, Content Marketing Strategy (3M):

Carlos Abler states that it was early 2000 when this tragedy happened with him. He and his team created 4 content marketing initiatives which they calculated that it would bring a lot more revenue in but there was something else to come.

Everything just fell apart and it destroyed even their reputation in their market. With this strategy their company lost interest in content marketing and all the content writers and marketers had to go underground. Now they could not get any resource to work out.

So, you have to take content marketing seriously and understand that all your champions are at place and have a stable position.

3.Joe Pulizzi, Founder (Content Marketing Institute):

Joe Pulizzi states that there was a blog editor from some company who approached him and informed that their blog was not meeting the company’s objectives. Joe Asked her that who were their audience and she informed that they mainly focused on the 18 personas. He suggested her that they should increase their target audience.

According to SEO Hong Kong sometimes targeting only one type of audience also creates a lot of problem. People should have more than one type of target audience.

These were some of the horror stories from the content marketing field. Go through them and find out if you are also practicing the same. If yes, then immediately change your plan.
