HTTPS was once a choice and then it was not.

Google announced two years ago that HTTPS is a ranking signal. The SEOs let no opportunity go to rule the top  SERP position but surprisingly, they did not jump out of their seats to switch to the HTTPS. SEO Companies in Mumbai gauged the benefits offered w.r.t. the trouble of switching and they decided not to.

7% of the results on SERP were HTTPS before the announcement and after it became a ranking signal, the percentage grew to 8% the very next week. Many businesses instantly seized the opportunity while most of them showed no haste in doing so. Now, two years later, the MOZ study shows that the 30% of the search results are HTTPS.

Almost one-third of the results on the first page are HTTPS. The websites started switching to HTTPS when Wikipedia got it. Wikipedia has that influence on the businesses. Clearly, the rise is gradual and the web owners took their time to decide whether or not getting the HTTPS is beneficial for their business.

The author of the post; Dr. Peter J. Meyers believes that the websites are adopting HTTPS because Google’s PR campaign is working. It is getting success in making people believe that shifting to HTTPS would be a reward worth strategy. Since the algorithm update is not permanent, the webmasters do not care whether or not HTTPS is a ranking signal. So, Google is trying to make them believe that HTTPS is for their own good.

The author stated the confusion that Google might have. Since only 30% of the sites are HTTPS, it cannot reward them and be partial. The majority of sites are not HTTPS and Google does not want them to switch only to get the benefits. At the same time, if all the sites switch to HTTPS, what is the meaning of a reward? So, the incentive cannot be too high to benefit the undeserving site and it cannot be too low to not inspire the switch.

Google could play the reward game to the fullest when at least 50% sites are HTTPS. Until then, it is trying to convince the popular sites to make a switch. When the websites that other smaller websites look up to switch to HTTPS, smaller websites will be motivated to do so too.

While HTTPS shows the user that the site is secure, SEO Companies in Mumbai say that there are some disadvantages too. The biggest of them is the increase in page load time. An extra layer of security to reach to the website means some extra time. The process of switching is time-consuming and requires a good amount of money.

It has been predicted that within next 1.5 years, the percentage of the HTTPS results on the first page of SERP is going to increase to 50%.
